ALL IN: The Story of Ruth
Real commitment is at an all time low today
Are You ALL IN?
-marriage- not just playing house, one spouse for life
-parenting- raise children, don’t just have them
-children- honor your father and mother until they pass away
-are you in it for what you can give or what you can get?
-are you a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ?
-is belonging and being with your church family a high priority?
-or do you schedule everything else first?
-key is regular, habitual, consistent, not legalism!

Ruth Was ALL IN! Ruth 1:16-17
Why we hesitate to commit in relationships, to God
Victim Mentality- my circumstances prevent me from committing
-Ruth could have let her loss excuse her from trusting anyone again
-always someone else’s fault
-propels uncertainty, hopelessness, bitterness, unforgiveness,
-Ruth was giving up her entire life by going with Naomi
-I am too young to make a real commitment
-The only certain thing in life is death and our accountability to God!
-We are either all in or not in at all!
-Ruth was not promised another spouse
Deuteronomy 23:3-4 Jews weren’t supposed to marry foreign wives
-Ruth was committing to a widow- destitute, second class citizen
ALL IN- lessons from Ruth
We walk together- wherever you go, I will go
We live together- wherever you live, I will live
We will have the same friends- your people will be my people
We worship God together- your God will be my God
We are committed for life- where you die, I will die
We are accountable to God- may God punish me if I don’t do this
What did Ruth Gain?
-she began to worship the One True God!
-Marriage and children
Note: Boaz was the son of Rahab (former prostitute)
-Matthew 1:5 Ancestor of Jesus Christ
What must we do now to be ALL IN?
ALL IN with Jesus Christ
Luke 14:26-27 priority over all over relationships and personal life
-Luke 18:24-30 more important than all my possessions
ALL IN with Family
