David and Goliath: A Story of Courageous Faith
1 Samuel 17:1-52
Are you courageous or fearful?
Faith in God affects courage
1. Faith affects courage
-vs 11 Saul and his men “lost their courage and were terrified.”
-King Saul had chosen to depend on himself instead of God
-King Saul’s men suffered from the lack of godly leadership
-Goliath was a
-vs 26 David became upset when Goliath “defied the armies of
the living God”
-vs 32 David told Saul “Don’t let anyone be discouraged by
-This story reveals the faith difference between Saul and David
-Saul was diminishing as David was rising
2. God uses people we may overlook
-David was too young to be a soldier
-vs 28 Eliab accused his brother being arrogant, with an evil
-vs 33 Saul saw David as inexperienced

-Goliath was a spiritual problem!
-vs 34-37 David depended on God to rescue him from lions and

-David’s victory over Goliath brought victory for his entire nation
