A Tale of Two Sisters
As we emerge from quarantine…
-Relationship Stress is at an all time high
-Domestic abuse has increased significantly
-Sexual abuse reporting is down, but that may be because
victims are isolated from secondary reporters
-Financial pressures are mounting
May is Mental Health Awareness Month- very timely!
How does Jesus help you with stress?
-Is he a welcomed guest in your life?
-Is Jesus only important when you are near your church family?
-Do you see Jesus as just one of many other “subjects” you
need to pay attention to?
-Are you consistently stopping and listening to him?
Are you experiencing real peace and power in your life?
-Jesus promised to give us real peace, real power, real hope,
real security, real and lasting satisfaction!
-Fear, worry, and anxiety are signs we aren’t submitting
ourselves to Jesus Christ
This Bible story in Luke compares & contrasts 2 sisters
-One was distracted by her many tasks,
She was worried and upset about many things
-The other sister was not, and was complimented by Jesus
I am praying that you and I will continually pursue a real, empowering, and life changing relationship with Jesus Christ
Read Luke 10:38-42
How to stay worried and upset
Forget why you do what you do
-Martha focused on the service, not the Savior
-She invited Jesus in as a guest, didn’t pay attention to him!
-Stop serving and working to impress Jesus or other people!
-Luke 10:25-29 expert in the law forgot the why behind his what
Expect everyone else to agree with your viewpoint
-Martha was mad that her sister wasn’t helping
-Often, we get upset with people because they are wired
differently, they don’t approach circumstances the same way
Pray Jesus will “fix” people
-Martha tried to manipulate Jesus into making Mary help her
-She said “Lord” but wasn’t really submitting to Jesus
-We must appreciate people who approach life differently
-1 Corinthians 12:12-14 One body, many parts, unified in Christ
Make the right choice!
Stop- put everything else aside, all your to-do lists, tasks,
worries, fears, anxieties, problems
Rest- sit down, settle your mind, heart and soul
Listen- submit to what Jesus wants to tell you, let Jesus be your
teacher, counselor, guide, coach, mentor, boss, savior
Listen to Jesus
Read handout “What the Bible says about personal stress”
-Our church Mental Health Team created this handout
-They want you to know you are not alone right now!
What is Jesus saying to you right now?
Stop, Rest and Listen!
I pray that you will continually pursue a real, empowering, and life changing relationship with Jesus Christ

Many sermons in the St. Joe archive are machine-transcribed. St. Joe is presently transcribing its entire sermon library to render its content more easily accessible to the deaf and hard of hearing, those who speak English as a second language, and to make the sermon content searchable for everybody. While machine transcription makes this logistically and financially more viable, accuracy is sometimes sacrificed. St. Joe is gradually replacing machine transcription with human transcription as time and financial resources allow. Each sermon costs between $30 to $60 to transcribe. If you would like to help see the preached Word of God become accessible to more people, please consider an investment in the St. Joe ministry through the PayPal platform by sending funds to StJoeOnlineGiving@gmail.com, or click here.
