Glorify God, by Pastor Greg Byman
We have reached the end of Paul’s letter to the Romans
-a letter to a group- the Bible is for a community of people
-one of the mostly theologically rich messages
-a clear message of how to be saved through faith in Christ
Today we will observe the Lord’ Supper
Trust in God alone
-vs 25 “Now to him who is able to strengthen you…”
-We receive salvation from God through faith alone!
-any self effort to save ourselves is blasphemy
-God gets all the glory for our salvation
Believe in Christ alone
-“according to my gospel”- the good news proclaimed by
The Apostle Paul and the other Apostles
-test everything against the Bible, God’s inspired Word
-the proclamation of Jesus Christ- Jesus is the central message
-the church may become involved in moral causes
-however, no cause can supersede the proclamation of Jesus
-this world needs transformed by Jesus Christ
-reformation is temporal
-worldly systems and philosophies may reveal our depravity
-but only Jesus can truly save and redeem us!
-“the mystery now revealed”
-the OT prophets foretold of Jesus and salvation of Gentiles
-We now know this mystery!
-1 Timothy 3:16
How to glorify God in practical ways
Examine our lives
-do we glorify God in all we do and say?
-do we give God all the credit for what is good and right in us?
-do our lives lead people towards Jesus Christ?
Confess and Repent
Observe the Lord’s Supper
-1 Corinthians 11:23-26
-this is for Christ followers only
-we are proclaiming our dependence on the finished work of
Jesus Christ- his death paid for our sins!
-Jesus took bread
-Jesus took the cup
-Proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes again!
