Hey parents! Use these questions as a guide to talk over this week’s Bible story about The Shepherds with your child after they’ve watched this week’s Church at Home elementary video. Remember that we can tell Jesus’ story!
  1. Q: What was your favorite part of the video we just watched?
  2. Q: What did you learn is the real meaning of Christmas? A: That Jesus was born! All of the celebrations at Christmas time – like songs, cookies, and presents – are a celebration of the fact that Jesus was born on the very first Christmas.
  3. Q: Jesus’ birth was a big deal, but it happened a long time ago! Why is Jesus’ birth so important still today? A: The Savior Jesus didn’t just come for the people who lived at the time of Jesus’ birth, he came for you! His life on Earth – his birth at Christmas and his death and resurrection at Easter – means that you have the chance to live in Heaven forever with him, too.* That’s why we celebrate this huge moment in history!
  4. Q: What are some ways you can celebrate Jesus’ birth this Christmas? A: You can thank Jesus through prayer or by writing him a card for coming to Earth to save us, you can tell him you love him, or you can sing songs of praise to him (lots of Christmas songs are all about Jesus)! Or you can even do fun things like decorate cookies or drink hot chocolate with your family as a way to celebrate what happened on the very first Christmas.
  5. Luke 2:10-11 says, “But the angel reassured them. ‘Don’t be afraid!’ he said. ‘I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the City of David.’” What names does the angel call Jesus in this Bible verse? What do you think those mean? A: Savior, Messiah, and Lord. Savior means that Jesus is the one who came to save us. Messiah means the promised “anointed one” – the special one who God promised would come. And Lord means the one with authority and power. Jesus is all of these amazing things!
*Reference our How to Become a Christian booklet as a guide for you as you walk through this with your child if they have questions, would like to pray a prayer of salvation, etc. If you’ve decided to pray a prayer of salvation, share with us a by filling out a St Joe Connection Card.

Christmas: Jesus Is Born

Hey parents! Use these questions as a guide to talk over this week’s Bible story, Jesus is Born, with your child after they’ve watched this week’s Church at Home early childhood video. Remember that we can celebrate Jesus’ birth!
  1. What was your favorite part of the video we just watched?
  2. Whose birthday do we celebrate at Christmas?
Jesus! Christmas is really all about Jesus and that is something we can celebrate.
  3. What was Jesus born to do?
God sent Jesus to save us from our sins! He was born a baby, just like us, so that he could save us. The Jesus we celebrate at Christmas is the same Jesus we celebrate at Easter. Baby Jesus is God’s son and he would grow up and to save everyone.
  4. How did the Skuppets say they would like to celebrate Jesus this Christmas?
Melly wanted to tell Jesus that she loves him and make him a special gift. Gus said he wanted to thank Jesus. Winston wanted to have a party with his family. Bog said he would make a birthday cake for Jesus.
  5. What are some ways you can celebrate Jesus this Christmas?
Just like you celebrate your birthday, you can celebrate Jesus’ birthday in lots of ways. You could do some of the things the Skuppets said. Some other ways you can celebrate are by making cookies, sending Christmas cards telling people about Jesus, and more! Have fun remembering that Jesus is the reason for Christmas.
Pray with your child and thank God for sending baby Jesus for us at Christmas! You might pray something like this: Dear God, thank you for loving us so much that you sent Jesus at Christmas for us. I want to celebrate Jesus this Christmas and every day, too. I love you. Amen.

Christmas

Hey parents! Use these questions as a guide to talk over this week’s lesson all about Christmas with your child after they’ve watched the toddler video service!
  1. Who was born at Christmas?
    Jesus!
  2. Where was Jesus born?
He was born in a barn. They laid him in a manger – that’s a box animals use to eat their dinner.
  3. What kind of animals do you think were in the barn when Jesus was born?
Maybe there were cows – “Moo” like a cow! Maybe there were donkeys – Go “hee-haw” like a donkey! Maybe there were sheep – Let’s “baa” like sheep!
  4. Who visited the shepherds in the grassy field?
Angels came and told the shepherds about Jesus. Let’s shout “Hooray!” and say “Jesus is born!”
Take some time to pray with your toddler. Encourage them to sit with you and fold their hands, saying something like: “God, thank you for loving us. Thank you for Jesus. Help us remember Jesus is God’s son and was born to save us. We love you and we love celebrating Jesus at Christmas! Amen.”

Christmas Parent Devotional - Week 3
